Happy weekend folks! Another week is in the books, and here at BoldRide, there have been a lot of interesting developments in the last seven days regarding future models. Hints, rumors and spy shots always have us stressing about future rides, but we can always decompress with some great father-son activities tomorrow for Father’s Day! Until then, take a load off and before you hit the pool, grille or golf course brush up on the latest reports from BoldRide!

As we stated before, this week has been all about future models. For starters, the Chevy Volt-based Cadillac ELR was spotted out with minimal camouflage:

Scant details on the next-generation Jeep Wrangler were essentially leaked via want ad postings:

Elsewhere, Ford may ditch the Shelby nameplate, the epic Pininfarina Sergio concept will go into very limited production, and the forthcoming Need for Speed film was previewed via teaser video:

For all you iPhone owners out there, Apple debuted iOS 7, but the big development was iOS 7 in the Car, an unimaginatively named, yet highly helpful in-car feature that essentially takes over your car’s navigation screen and presents iPhone functions on the digital screen. This is big, and though it may take subsequent versions to get it right, this will be a highly coveted in-car feature:

Our Jeff Perez got an exclusive interview with Rob Spyker, who located and rebuilt a 1907 Spyker. It’s always nice when your distant relatives were carmakers and you can find one of their pieces of work available to restore.

Oh yeah, and we got some seat time in the 2013 Porsche 911 Carrera 4S. Spoiler alert: it was glorious…

Well folks, after a bit of a hiatus, the BoldRide weekly recap is back! Why did we take a brake from it? Frankly, there just wasn’t an abundance of breaking news worth recapping. But, we’ve got plenty of news to rife through this week! So buckle in, grab that coffee, a donut (burnout or otherwise), and check out the biggest stories of the week from BoldRide!

Last weekend was all about the concours! High end car shows for the rarefied air of the automobile world. I was able to get down to the Greenwich Concours d’Elegance, where we saw some great cars from the Bonhams auction, and the best from the parking lot. There was also this embarrassing moment at Italy’s Concorso d’Eleganza:

Elsewhere, some lucky bastards managed to get a Bugatti and a Koenigsegg in the same place at the same time, and decided it would be novel to find out which was better:

We had some real fun with the best Russian dashcams that we could find.

And just to whet your appetite for said Russian videos, here is one that we can really get into:

We had two very sportscar-centric reviews this week. One by our man Jeff Perez, on the 2013 Nissan 370Z, and another by resident classic car purveyor Mike P. on the Ford GT40. You read that correctly, a review of the GT40.

This week was also about endings and beginnings  First Volvo killed the C30, then Chevy brought us pricing on the SS, and some creative folks revived a Saab 96, albeit in a very unique fashion.

But the biggest news for motorsport fans was the confirmation of an NYC-area Formula One race. Once again, we can’t wait for this race.

The sun is shining, and birds are chirping. That means that spring has sprung, and so the convertible tops will also be down and the classic cars will be out on the road again. It is a great time to be a car enthusiast, as the calendar fills up with car shows, and races to attend. This past week featured the Shanghai Auto Show. The Chinese automotive market is burgeoning, with all manner of luxury cars. But the car that was the big story from Shanghai was not a volume luxury car, but a niche sportscar from Icona. Fret not, as we covered the rest of the show- as you can read here.

The beginning of last week also brought Earth Day, so we decided to take a uniquely cynical approach, highlighting “green cars” that do not live up to their potential. If you’d like to know three actual green cars- we have you covered as well.

Speaking of not living up to potential, one of the Top Gear America hosts apparently did something with real celebrities over the weekend. Ok, moving along.

In other news, we brought you a sexy Mustang, a spectacularly terrible drifter, and a sweet Silver Anniversary Pontiac Grand Am pace car. That was nothing compared to the interior of the Icona Vulcano. So epic was that car’s cabin, that it led us to compare it to some of the other spectacular interiors out there.

But we weren’t done, and went on a bit of a tear, ripping not only some of the dullest cars in America, but we also somehow found something wrong with some of the most exciting supercars. We can never be satisfied apparently.

To round out the week, we examined strange Renault projects, both old and new. That’s nothing compared to news of the SSC Tuatara nearing production, and pricing dropped on the Chevrolet Corvette (hint: It’ll set you back just under $52K). This past week has obviously been marred by tragedy and chaos, causing us to ponder the significance of a modest automotive news outlet like ourselves. But the world continues to spin, and we’re all just a community of individuals, whose lives, careers, and choices somehow all effect one another in some form. We press on, trying to do the best at what we know how to do. In the case of BoldRide, that means bringing you the best automotive news coverage that we can. Here are the top automotive stories this past week from BoldRide:

We started the week off with some laughter. This lovable prankster that you see below wanted to teach this asshole Ferrari owner a lesson…it kinda backfired…

With that out of the way, our own Jeff Perez was able to bring you his musings on the Lexus IS F, while Sterling Moss delivered the wold his thoughts on ‘poofters’ and women in motorsports. (Spoiler alert: his opinions were NOT positive).

We found a serious classified treasure, in the form of a McLaren F1 with zero miles on the odo. That is how to take care of a supercar. Meanwhile, Afrojack continues to show us how not to treat supercars. Or maybe that is just another way to properly treat one. Perhaps that’s a philosophical question.

A great philosophical question about supercars is whether or not the McLaren F1 is more special than the Porsche 959? They almost coexist in this rare spere of cars that brought us into the modern supercar game. Here is a look at one of the most highly regarded versions of the 959:

The second half of the week was concept city, starting with the Jaguar F-Type Sportbrake. Things got real crazy with the BMW M9 Concept by Radion Design, then got downright odd with our look back at the 2007 DiMora XJ Coupe Concept. Thankfully the Mercedes-Benz GLA Concept and speculated Corvette ZR1 arrived in time to cleanse our palette.

Speaking of the F-Type, there is word now that a new, more potent version of the new Jaguar coupe could debut, with…wait for it…600 horsepower! We like, but it begs the question- which Jaguar F-Type would you want most?

We also brought you reasons to love/hate the Ford Mustang, why to remember the name Marcel van Cleemput, and why to save your pennies, so that one day you may be able to own a BMW-powered Formula 2 racecar, or attend a car show in Monaco.

Well folks, its that time of year- when the auto shows come to a close and were left scrambling for new cars debuts throughout the summer. It’s like when the playoffs for hockey and basketball are over, and you are left with meaningless baseball games to watch until football seasons start. Doldrums, man. Let me tell you. Anyways, that means we can turn our attention away from the unveiling of the next Japanese full-size crossover, and towards fun motorsport car-culture stories! So kick back, take a nice long sip from that no-whip soy mocha latte, and prepare to get a weeks worth of auto news blasted all in your general direction!

We find drifting to be a pretty enjoyable sport to watch. While the crotchety old types will tell you that its not a real sport, we have to dissagree. Vaughn Gittin Jr. would likely also have some choice words for whoever said that in his presence. The drift-happy Gittin Jr just got a new ride for the 2013 season, so he should be happy.

While we’re talking about new rides, the MotoGP racing series got a new safety car- a 2013 BMW M6 Gran Coupe.

Our classic car guru, Bill Wilson took a break from talking all things vintage to look at the life and ascent of Danica Patrick. Meanwhile a movie franchise that has been around since before Patrick was was even in IndyCar was out filming their latest installment. It will feature all manner of stupid-amazing hypercars. Also in film, a new movie is coming out that should put the Fast and Furious franchise to shame.

Speaking of hypercars, the gold standard of modern hyper-car-ism (that’s a scientific term), the Bugatti had quite a week. First, the Veyron was was stripped of its title of world’s fastest, got a well-deserved heap of humility from our own Jeff Perez, and then completely redeemed itself by setting the record as the world’s fastest convertible.

Jeff also scoped out the top cars from Barrett-Jackson at Palm Beach. Let’s hope he was able to push his way through the octogenarians to get some slick photos.

The male reproductive region was strangely a reoccurring theme this week, with a painting of a penis shutting down our favorite racetrack, and a Tennessee politician arrested for going to town on himself at 90 mph. Talk about distracted driving.

Craig Fitzgerald shared with us the crucial rules to know if you want to attend a swap meet. Honestly, you better know this stuff if you ever hope to find a radiator from an REO Speed Wagon. Yes, it was a real car and not just a funny band name. You should also brush up on the unwritten rules of traffic. Do it.

For general car news, the Fiat 500C is getting an automatic, Dubai got a Lamborghini police car, and the the SVT Raptor got even more special.

Also, we caught up with the gents from the Gentlemen’s Guide To Racing, following their epic seventh-place finish in the Mint 400.

As expected, the week following any major auto show is a quiet one. Following the 2013 edition of the New York International Auto Show is no different. Any news or debuts in the week following a show like NYIAS get perhaps a little extra attention because of the generally slow roll out of car news. With that, here are the biggest stories from BoldRide this past week.

If you did not know, Monday was April Fools, and we had some fun with a few stories. First was a spoof on the recent glut of Russian oligarchs using ambulances to get through traffic faster. We spun that and said that to combat it, Russian officials have told motorists to start ignoring ambulances. Then there was the bit about the US patent office making it easier for the Chinese to steal patents. Hey why not? We had some more April Fools fun here, here and here.

Oh yeah, this thing debuted (not fooling around here):

On to the real stuff. Porsche totally teased us with what we thought was an invite to test drive the 918. It hurt, but they kinda made up for it with talk of a Cayman GT3.

This week we welcomed Craig Fitzgerald to the mix. Craig has written for Hemmings Muscle Machines, as well as Hemmings Sports & Exotic. This week he pondered the significance of celebrity endorsement, and the seven worst movie cars of all time.

Oh yeah, Bubba showed us his hover:

This was quite a week for electric cars and hybrids. There was news of a new 91-mpg Porsche Panamera, not to mention the return of Detroit Electric! This electric car news must have ruffled the feathers of one Elon Musk, because Tesla made a somewhat-un-newsworthy announcement, which was followed by Detroit Electric announcing more products in its lineup. Looking back, it really was a busy week in the green performance car world.

Oh yeah, and Fisker is done. Alas.

Other odds and ends to round out the week include news that McLaren P1 is almost sold out, Chevrolet might bring back the Chevelle (but don’t count on it), and GM’s Australian Vauxhall division has made a completely badass wagon that has no chance of ever seeing American roads. Hey, a dingo might eat your baby, but it would be a small price to pay for living in Australia and getting to drive their modern muscle cars.

In like a Lion, out like a Lamb…or something. That’s how auto show season goes. There was plenty of hype over the 2013 New York International Auto Show, but in the end, there were only a few debuts that truly got us amped. Everything else was rather staid. Luckily, that means that other news from the week can share the stage with the Auto Show. Here are the top stories from NYIAS and everything else form the past week on BoldRide!

The week most certainly started with a bang, which came in the form of an Audi TT crashing into a UK home- about four feet off the ground! That was not the only notable crash this week, as a 2,800-horsepower Chevrolet Camaro ate the dust at 220 miles per hour down in Texas!

Jeep showed us the goods for the 2013 edition of the Jeep Easter Safari, and we have to admit, the Grand Cherokee Trailhawk Concept just might be the most impressive all-around luxury/off-road SUV ever created. It makes the new Range Rover Sport look like a wagon being pulled by a pair of rented mules.

Meanwhile, news broke on a pair of highly specialized performance vehicles. First, we learned that the Ariel Atom, everyone’s favorite stripped-down racer may be switching to a titanium chassis. As for all-new supercars, the Weber FasterOne is a 1200-horsepower monster. If they get the proper funding, they might even roll out a 1600-horsepower hybrid model.

This week also brought us the awesome early concept design work from Ferrari, as well as a humorous video of Lewis Hamilton pitting with the wrong team at the Malaysian Grand Prix. Classic stuff…

And, of course, there was the small matter of the 2013 New York Auto Show. The three biggest unvielings from NYIAS were the 2014 Cadillac CTS, the new Chevrolet Camaro Z/28 and the Land Rover Range Rover Sport.

After that, other moderately significant news included the Volkswagen Golf being named World Car of the Year, and the Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk, which though better than the standard Cherokee, has still not won us over.

Finally, there was the news that Lexus will be producing the LF-LC, even if it does not live under that name. Regardless, it is encouraging to hear that such a captivating vehicle design will be coming to production. Good job, Lexus! Finally an exciting car!

This week was the calm before the storm that is the 2013 New York International Auto Show. BoldRide will be there, live on the show floor, bringing you all the latest coverage, but in the mean time here were the biggest stories of last week.

The first big news from the last week was the setting of a new speed record on ice. If you live in the Northeast, you probably couldn’t stand to hear anything more about snow or ice. Too bad. Anyways, these crazy concepts including rhe Lamborghini Gandor, W 00, and the McLaren P1 in Gulf Racing Livery should warm your cold heart.

Speaking of racing livery, we were absolutely smitten with this racing-spec Maserati GranTurismo.

We love us some Jeeps, so we brought you news on cars for the upcoming Jeep Easter Safari.

In other strange news, the company more commonly known for racing filmed impressive wingsuit gliding, and a vehicle that should fly was used for auto racing. Is it opposite day? Regardless, it’s better than being one of the drivers involved in this $4 million crash, or being the poor sap who put the wrong fuel in the President’s ride!

A boutique automaker got wise and changed the name of its Jaguar E-Type-inspired exotic after it became apparent that the original name had a derogatory ulterior meaning.

Oh and just because the NY Auto Show has not yet taken place, there are already some nuggets of news coming from automakers. For starters, the new CTS is coming and so is a new engine for our beloved Caddy. SRT is bringing an even more bonkers Viper to the table, a very old company is rolling out a very new electric car and a new Camaro is apparently on the way.

Welcome to the weekend, folks! We also wish you a happy St. Patrick’s Day! If you ever wondered which cars may have come from Ireland, here are a few. Here are also our biggest stories of the week!

Life moves pretty fast, and if you don’t stop to look around, you might miss our oldest and best pony car. Heck, it’s even getting a turbocharged four-pot. The times, they are changing. We should not dwell on it, thought. Things area heating up in an entirely different sportscar competition.

This week, we interviewed the guys from Petrolicious. Frankly, we love their videos, and after speaking with them, have a newfound appreciation for those who love the car above the almighty dollar!

Speaking of cars to love, there is one recent BMW, called the 1 Series M, that everyone seems to love. Too bad that they killed it after one production year. That is about to be of little consequence, as BMW is talking about making a successor. This is a very good thing.

In less-than-great news. Lexus ditched their only performance car that people could actually afford, and a green-thumbed supercar company lost its eponymous leader. Hey, we have to take the good car news with the bad.

The big news here at BoldRide this past week was the Geneva Motor Show. You can find all the debuts from this massive show here, but it would be a disservice to certain cars to toss them in with the whole lot.

Let us start with the most-hyped: The Ferrari LaFerrari. Or is it just LaFerrari? Either way. It is putting out 949 horsepower thanks to the addition of a hybrid powertrain. That’s right, a hybrid hypercar. Only 499 will be made, adhering to Enzo Ferrari’s mantra of building one less car than you think you can sell. Epic.

Just as hyped and certainly more exclusive is the Lamborghini Veneno. It is a 740-horsepower track-ready beast. Only three will be made, and they have already been spoken for. That the car is sold out inconsequential, as it’s unlikely that you have the $4.6 million required to purchase one.

Other outrageous performance cars included the Porsche 911 GT3, as well as the one-of-one Koenigsegg Agera S “Hundra” to celebrate the oddly-named automaker’s 100th vehicle produced. It features a carbon fiber construction and gold flakes, and has already been sold.

Perhaps even more stunning are the concepts rolled out by some of the most epic designers in the world. Superleggera brought out its Disco Volante homage car, while the late designer Sergio Pininfarina was honored by the Sergio concept. If it were not for the Lamborghini and Ferrari debuts, the Italidesign Parcour SUV/coupe-thing would have stole the show. It was certainly our favorite car from the show.

In non-auto show news, we interviewed the Brilliant Mind Behind the Alfa Romeo 6C. There was also that crazy story of the two police cruisers that were stolen in Philly. Authorities think drugs were involved– ya think?

In other news, a Lego spill shut down a WV highway for a while. You think they have the missing piece to my lego pirate ship? Probably.

Oh, some Subarus started up on their own. People are freaking. Zombie cars, man. Speaking of the undead, here are some cars that we wish would stay dead, but Mansory (their F12berlietta seen above) continues to be our Dr. Frankenstein. We’re surprised the townspeople outside their German factory have not formed a mob with torches and pitchforks.

Finally, more Bieber car news. Kid can’t keep his cars out of the press. Alas, enjoy the weekend, everybody!
