If you’ve never actually heard of Icona, fear not, that’s what we’re here for. The upstart design firm has only been around since 2010, and have only shown-off two concepts since then; the Fuselage and the Icona Vulcano- one of which we just saw in Shanghai. But how does this Italian-born, Shanghai-bred firm come into light with the likes of Pininfarina or Italdesign- some of the larger names in the industry?
Well, we recently sat down with lead designer Gwen Pennarun to talk turkey about the new Vulcano and Icona as a whole.
What guy wouldn’t want to be Tony Stark? He gets paid to blow things up. He’s dating Gwyneth Paltrow. He seems to have more money than Bill Gates and Warren Buffet combined. And then there’s that metal suit.
Of course, none of those things can compare to his fleet of cars. Here’s a look at some of the ones that have appeared in the films. If the list makes you envious, then welcome to the club.
The McLaren P1 and Ferrari LaFerrari have dominated the hypercar headlines of late, but the folks at Stuttgart have been hard at work on the Porsche 918 Spyder. The spiritual successor to the Porsche 917 is nearly ready, and according to a report from Autocar, Porsche has already been displaying the car to prospective buyers…in the Middle East, of course.
Honestly, we don’t like talking about Chris Brown. To quote John Malcovich’s Cyrus Grissom, the woman-beating Chris Brown is “somewhere between a cockroach and that white stuff that accumulates at the corner of your mouth when you’re really thirsty.” Apparently, Rihanna must not feel too sore for the unlovable douche-nozzle, as the female pop star purchased an incredibly rare Mercedes-Benz for the backhand-happy Brown’s 24th birthday.
The Gulf Oil racing livery is one of the most iconic schemes to ever grace the top side of a race car. Hell, we covered the P1 in a sexy cover up of our own. But now, the LaFerrari gets the blue-and-orange treatment courtesy of Carbon Designs.
Recently, the Guinness Book of World Records recently stripped the Bugatti Veyron of its crown as the world’s fastest production car. Word has it that the jerks at SSC (formerly Shelby Super Cars) asked Guinness to look into the fact that the Veyron had its speed limiter deactivated, which eventually resulted in the SSC Ulimtate Aero being named the fastest car. Well, Bugatti took the approach of the random guy who wants to get into the book, and looked for a record that could be broken. In this case, it was for convertible, which the Veyron Grand Sport Vitesse smashed, as you can see in the video below:
The sun is shining, and birds are chirping. That means that spring has sprung, and so the convertible tops will also be down and the classic cars will be out on the road again. It is a great time to be a car enthusiast, as the calendar fills up with car shows, and races to attend. In the meantime, fill up on the latest car news with the best stories of the week from BoldRide!
We originally saw the Tuatara some time ago as the ultra-exclusive, high-powered concept which was aiming for the top speed crown. Since then, SSC North America (formerly Shelby Supercars) went through a name change, all the while hard at work prepping the Tuatara for production.
Merchandising is a great way for those who cannot afford a high-end supercar to feel connected to that brand. You think everyone with a Ferrari shirt owns a 458 Italia? Hell no! But when it comes to supercar brands like Ferrari and Lamborghini, even the merchendising is prohibitively expensive.
Perhaps one of the most identifiable elements to the Iron Man movie franchise has been Tony Stark’s rides. In each installment, you get to see his garage, which has all manner of high-powered vehicular activity, including a Shelby Cobra, Saleen S7, Tesla Roadster and a whole host more! Though such vehicles are seen in the background, the car that is perhaps the most syonymous with the big screen’s Iron Man character is the Audi R8 and R8 Sypder. Sure, that is the intended result of product placement which is probably worth millions of dollars, but it worked.
