The difference Between Porsches and Lamborghini’s and Women are all business. They get you up to speed and keep you safe. The lines of a Porsche are straightforward and functional. There are no surprises. Lamborghini’s whisper to you from just behind your ear. They promise things that will thrill you if you let them. Their lines are like that of Sophia Loren; outrageous curves and surprising planes. All of it meant to be touched, not merely looked at. Porsches serve you dinner. Lamborghini’s take you dancing.
Actually, it’s the difference between being German and being Italian.
Every year the Gumball 3000 presents some of the most gorgeously dressed supercars on the planet. This year- as all the festivities kicked off this past Saturday, May 18th- we were in for quite a show.
With the usual suspect Lamborghinis and Ferraris taking place, newer faces like Koenigsegg, McLaren and even a few custom built cars were in the lineup. We won’t waste time on details, but here’s some of the most radical rides from the 2013 Gumball 3000 lineup:
Saturday afternoon, one gorgeous Lamborghini Murcielago SV was at the hands of mother nature during this year’s running of the Gumball 3000. From the starting point, team #72 was on their way to the first checkpoint in Stockholm when this dude- dressed as a tiger- seemed to have hydroplaned off the road and into some shrubbery.
Over my years as an editor with a vintage car magazine and an automotive journalist-at-large, I’ve had the opportunity to go to many a Concours d’Elegance: Pebble Beach, Amelia Island, Greenwich, the oldest such event in the country, the Hillsdale Concours in Hillsdale, California. Here’s one thing I know about them: They all suck. Continue Reading »
It’s not often that we come across something as pretty as this in the classifieds. A 1969 Lamborghini Miura S- restored to SV specifications and coated in a stunning wintergreen paint job.
Here’s your Wednesday wheels wallpaper- the utterly gorgeous Lamborghini Murcielago SV running the city streets in an electric blue getup. With drop-dead-gorgeous good looks, it’s not a difficult thing to consider the Murci an instant classic- but the 670-hp V12 will always helps its case. Click here to download
In the life of a celebrity, Kanye West is having a pretty shitty week if you ask him. He first found his face on the opposite end of a street sign, and now his prized $750,000 matte black Lamborghini Aventador was seen getting almost trapped in Kim Kardashian’s electric gate. Ouch.
By now, you all know the story of how Lamborghini started out as a producer of tractors. Ferruccio Lamborghini became wealthy industrialst, producing everything from farm equipment to oil heaters. He enjoyed Ferraris, but when he took a car back to Ferrari, asking for some improvements to be made, Enzo Ferrari famously told him to pound sand. Lamborghini decided to build his own cars, and the rest is history.
Sigh…to be a member of the Dubai Police force. Not only do they patrol some of the wealthiest streets in the world, filled with some of the most exotic vehicles known to man, but on occasion, they also get to drive said exotics as well.
Ferraris, Bentleys, Lamborghinis- all coated in the signature white and green police formal. Why do they get to drive all of these sweet exotic supercars though compared to, say, the Nantucket police dept.? Mostly because they’re loaded up to the gills with cash, and also maybe because they’re a bit of attention whores. But who can blame ‘em- only question is, where the hell do we sign up?
I’ve seen It’s a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World at least 300 times since the age of six, and for years, I was convinced that the vehicle Terry-Thomas drove was a Land Rover. The Willys Wagon he actually drove just seemed so, well, “British,” I guess, especially with Lt. Col. Algernon Hawthorne behind the wheel.
