Cataloging the “top auction cars sold” is a fool’s errand. It’s difficult to account for the vagaries of the market and money in general, making what sold for record money 10 years ago look like a relative bargain now. Taste also factors in. A few years back, Barrett-Jackson sold the Truppi-Kling 1970 Chevelle LS6 Convertible for $1.2 million, certainly a record for an LS6 at that point. At the depths of the economic downturn just two years later, that same car sold for $264,000, which was probably what it was worth in the first place.
We recently got all hot and bothered by the revealing of the Icona Vulcano, with arguably one of the best automotive interiors we’ve come across in recent history. That got us thinking, what other supercars, while handsome on outside and powerful enough under the bonnet, have an equally gorgeous interior to match? Whether it be quilted leather, red suede, or a little bit of both, some of today’s modern supercars sport the most elegant and understated interiors ever designed.
So we picked seven sexy interiors from some of the newest supercars and concepts on the market, and put them on display for your viewing pleasure. Gentlemen (and ladies) please try and keep your pants on.
I do not know what make of this. This is a custom Jeep-truck thing from Morocco. It appears to ride on the frame of a semi truck, and has been constructed to look like some bizarro-world, off-road Great Gatsby car. It was spotted driving on the open road, but looks like it could handle some serious desert driving.
The folks at Hooniverse specialize in strange rides. Spend a good 20 minutes tumbling around their site and you’ll learn more about former-Soviet-Bloc cars then you ever thought imaginable. Today, we’re examining a car that they found that is more of the Allied Forces persuasion.
Given the post-9/11 paranoia that has become a staple of our lives, it’s safe to say the President has some of the best security measures available. His ride certainly reflects that mentality. Upon the inauguration of Barack Obama in 2009, the White House garage received a new presidential limo that offered unprecedented levels of protection. Dubbed the “Beast”, this car is the pride of the Secret Service.
Every now and again, airport luggage guys get to see some strange and wonderful things (we assume). But it’s not every day that a LeMans-winning 1967 Ford Mk IV GT40 passes through. Good gravy, that thing is sexy.
Just like NASCAR to Formula 1, there is a difference between the hype over a Corvette and the hype over a Ferrari. While the former may have been shrouded in secrecy prior to the Detroit Auto Show, people would literally climb over their grandmother for leaked info on an upcoming Ferrari– especially when that car is the Enzo-succeeding F150. Feast eyes on the image above, because this is supposedly your new Ferrari F150.
If you have any small children in the room, they may want to ask them to leave. Things are going to get totally weird right about now. This- as you can plainly see- is an Aston Martin V12 Vantage, sporting one of the most signature liveries in the game; Gulf Racing. If I didn’t know any better, i’d say that someone with a wealth of knowledge and coinage is the proud owner of this beautiful piece of engineering.
Chrome has gained quite the reputation in the automotive world; although, mostly negative, and illegal. But every now and again, the idea that a chrome car can be gorgeous is realized through the use of clever body accenting and expensive camera angles. Either way, they are extremely fun to gawk at.
