Come May 24th, we should get a handsome look at the newly-born partnership between BMW and Pininfarina, via the Gran Lusso Coupe concept. Or as most would recognize, a reborn rendition of the long-lost 8-Series.
For all you wannabe drifters out there, listen up- this is how you drift, LIKE A BOSS. BMW test driver Johan Schwartz just smashed the world record for drifting by a distance of…wait for it…47.71 of sideways fury. It was all done in a stock M5.
BMW has been trying to largely revamp its lineup with a pairing of new concepts like the 4-Series and the X4- and in general, a whole new set of lines throughout. But sometimes it’s more than just a nip here and a tuck there. BMW might be shooting for the moon with an M8 supercar, due sometime in 2016.
So earlier I was bitching about the grave injustices of the world, regarding the fact that certain celebrities can abuse a woman and yet still be in the limelight, recieving million-dollar cars from the very same battered woman. It is pretty frustrating if you think about it, but thankfully, the folks at FunnyorDie.com were there for some comic relief.
This past week has obviously been marred by tragedy and chaos, causing us to ponder the significance of a modest automotive news outlet like ourselves. But the world continues to spin, and we’re all just a community of individuals, whose lives, careers, and choices somehow all effect one another in some form. We press on, trying to do the best at what we know how to do. In the case of BoldRide, that means bringing you the best automotive news coverage that we can. Here are the top automotive stories this past week from BoldRide:
Earlier this year, we showed you the splendidly swoopy BMW M9 concept by Razvan Radion. With a long, sloping hood and muscular fenders, it is everything that we hoped a BMW flagship could be. Perhaps the only thing missing from the previous grand touring coupe concept could have been the lack of a convertible roof…until now! Radion Design has gone ahead and cut the roof off the BMW M9, making for a spectacular and lavish convertible. We like.
Ah, nothing like some good ‘ol sibling rivalry to get the juices flowing. Sitting pretty under the BMW Group umbrella- the Mini Paceman JCW and the BMW M135i are two of the newest hot hatches (?) in the German/British lineup.
In the fast-paced world of international motorsport, even the support vehicles need to hustle along. Whether it is a pace car or an emergency response vehicle, they need to move at least close to as fast as the the participants in the race. Enter, the 2013 BMW M6 Gran Coupe Safety Car, employed as the official safety vehicle of the 2013 MotoGP season, tending to any crashes for this motorcycle racing series.
In this week’s sign of the Apocolypse, BMW has once again unveiled a segment-crossing vehicle that no one asked for; the BMW X4 Sport Activity Coupe Thing. Following in the footsteps of the X6, the smaller X4 is essentially a jacked-up 3 Series GT that we saw earlier this year. I know we have been desensitized by these aforementioned crossovers and high-riding wagons, but this is really terrible. The fact that this car does not induce vomit is actually a sad state of the new automotive market that we live in.
When BMW bought and revived the Mini name in 1994, the automotive enthusiast and historians were joyful, but it was in 2001 that the motoring world received its first truly new Mini model in decades. The Mini Cooper was reborn as a larger-than-before, but still-diminutive runabout was a breath of fresh air to an automotive market that was afraid of taking risks. Some have argued if BMW has bastardized the Mini brand, while others say they have taken the marque to new heights. Here’s what we think.
