Lamborghini‘s Gallardo replacement, aka, the Cabrera, was recently caught testing out in the wild prior to the cars official unveiling at the Frankfurt Auto Show come September. The new spy shots from Marchettino show the Cabrera covered mostly in camouflage but sporting a significantly new look from the outgoing Gallardo. Under the hood we guess that the new Lambo is expected to carry over some technology from the Gallardo and the Sesto Elemento with likely a 5.2L V10 and somewhere in the market of 600-hp.

Both a six-speed manual and seven-speed dual clutch transmission are expected along with all-wheel drive as standard. Expect the Cabrera in the flesh when it takes to the stage in Frankfurt later this year.

I’ll be the first to admit that sometimes chrome can be sort of sexy- that is, all in the right situation. Chrome blue Veyron? Pretty sexy. Gold chrome Veyron, though? Ugh. Not so much.

Flo Rida- a Florida based rapper (get it?), took his multi-million dollar whip down to Hollywood’s (Florida) Metro Wrapz, who promptly wrapped up the gold chrome Bugatti project and sent it out into the world. The new gold getup further accentuates his 24 karat gold Forgiato rims, which aren’t tacky at all.

We’ll disdain from using words like “horrid” or “unfathomably ridiculous,” but rather, we’ll say Flo Rida’s new ride is definitely “bold.”

…and that’s a lot of noise to back up, considering the GT-R has been one of the most sought after supercars on the planet since its introduction back in 2007. But what will make this super-GT-R that much more “super” than the current generation, you ask? How about a 7:18 lap around the Nurburgring. Yup, that should do it.

Coming off news only a few months ago of an official Nismo GT-R release, Nissan told TopGear.com that the upcoming high-spec GT-R should be “the hardest GT-R ever,” and that the it will indeed be very very “special.”

Details are still slim at this point, but we can say that it will most definitely outpower the current 545-hp GT-R with somewhere in the market of “more than 570hp.” We also expect a few tweaks to aerodynamics, suspension, transmission, etc., that should make this super-GT-R just that much more “special” when it’s unveiled.

When you think about what makes a supercar so “super,” you can’t help but bring into account the history of large engines that are ten supercharged or turbocharged, and sent off into the world to wreak havoc on unsuspecting lesser vehicles. But now, in the year 2013, it’s become almost an antiquated method of engineering.

Hybrid, electric, even hydrogen options have all made a name for themselves in the automotive world- some more than others. Companies like Rimac- whose 1,000+ hp pure-electric hypercar have put down a base formula for others to work from. And more recognizable faces like Porsche, Ferrari and McLaren implementing hybrid technologies onto monstrous hypercars of their own.

But what about Tesla? Sure, while the relatively “niche” automaker has boasted its share of success in months past, it’s never been on anyone’s radar regarding cars of the super variety. That is, until lately. If you ever wander around the interweb late at night (ehem), you’ll hear mumblings of Tesla’s future and the idea of a high-powered electric vehicle in the lineup. So, we employed our good friends at Hansen Art and thought we’d see just exactly what such a vehicle might look like…

Unlike most other supercars on the market today, naturally, the only thing that comes out of the back of this one (in the words of Jeremy Clarkson), “is baby foxes.” A clean, green Ferrari-eating machine. I bet Elon Musk likes the sound of that.

With the top-spec Tesla Model S Performance putting out a hefty 416-hp and a 0-60 mph time of only 4.2 seconds, we project the Model R to pump out somewhere in the neighborhood 620-hp- via dual wheel-mounted electric motors- and a 0-60 mph time of 2.4 seconds.  All this is paired to a single-speed gear-reduction transmission fitted with paddle shifters to enhance driver experience.

On the outside, the Model R maintains some very Tesla-esque features including the signature stout front-end, sharpened up with a new grille and a more aerodynamic hood. From then on, the supercar puts on a new set of high-spoke lightweight wheels, sitting nicely under a smooth and sophisticated stretched body-shape similar to the Model S.

So this is it- a Tesla-powered, 600+ hp supercar for the ages. We won’t say it’s coming soon- but with all of Tesla’s recent successes, and what we assume to be a few late-night ponderings of one outspoken CEO, we won’t say it’s not either. We’ll just have to wait and see.

Alright, so you say you’re in the market for a new toy, and it doesn’t need to be a daily driver. In fact, you’d prefer it exclusively for any and all weekend automotive activities. Now, you could go for a classic, maybe something American, Japanese- or you could go for something a little more race-y, if you catch my drift. Track cars- the ultimate automotive expression for the mostly more well-off enthusiasts. But there’s a lot to choose from. Companies now more than ever seem to be infusing this exclusive and important aspect into their lineup.

Don’t believe me? Here are seven of the steamiest track cars on the market today…

Ariel Atom

Any well-versed enthusiast should be able to tell you up and down about the Ariel Atom. And for good reason. It’s sharp, it’s eager, it looks like a sexy spaceship- oh, and it comes with a 475-hp V8, which in terms of power-to-weight ratio, makes the Bugatti Veyron look like a Toyota Prius.

BAC Mono

Another tried and tested competitor in the track-car game is and always will be BAC. The Mono- complete with a 2.3L 4-cylinder engine good for some 280-hp- has been given the seal of approval by numerous enthusiasts around the world, and with a central driving position, it makes you feel more at one with the road than ever before.

Lucra LC740

American born and bred- our friends at Lucra sure know how to make one mean track car. A 630-hp Corvette ZR1-sourced V8 powers up the LC740 to 60 mph in a blistering 2.5 seconds and straight on to a top speed of well over 200 mph.

Aspid Invictus GT-21

The Invictus may seem like a bit of a long shot in the realm of Ariel Atoms and BAC Monos, but dig a little deeper and you’ll see that its Super Sport sibling is one bad machine (in a good way). So far, Aspid hasn’t pushed the Invictus to the limit, but on looks alone, the thing should absolutely kill.

Ultima GTR

When the GTR came out in 2007, it was known as “the fastest accelerating and decelerating supercar of all time.” Which is awesome. Now though, it’s grown up some and become a little more mature, sporting 640-hp, and still as fast to 60.

Caterham Seven Supersport R

UK’s own Caterham has been known the world ’round for their ultimate Seven sportscar. Officially on the market since the early ’70s, it wasn’t until the 21st century that the Seven got a major upgrade via the Supersport R and took to the track with 180-hp.

Lotus T125

The ultimate of all ultimate track day cars- get ready, your million dollar Lotus F1 chariot awaits you. Back in 2010, Lotus officially announced plans to mock up five examples for customers, and it’s not just a track day- oh no, it’s a full track experience. Complete with a pit crew, 650-hp and the full day of racing. So, if you have a million bucks to blow, do this now.

It goes by many names. Cars and Coffee, Caffine & Carburators, etc, but the idea is a constant. In parking lots across America, folks show up on an early weekend morning, behind the wheel of their impressive performance cars. They park, walk around, check out each other’s cars, and generally continue to foster the passion for cars. Though it was founded in a Los Angeles suburb, the concept has taken hold nationally, and if you “don’t get” what being into cars is all about, do yourself a favor and come to one of these mostly impromtu shows.

This particular one was held this past Saturday, at the Larz Anderson Museum in Brookline, MA. It is one of Boston’s true hidden gems. While the cars inside are beyond impressive, the focus of this event were the vehicles in the parking lot and the front lawn:

But at the end of the day, this photo, of a 2004 Corvette Z06 Anniversary Edition and a 1962 ‘Vette sum up what these events are all about; car guys young and old getting together to share their passion for what they love most!

What do you buy a man that has everything? Definitely not a horrid necktie, that’s for sure. How about this- a Pagani Zonda Cinque-inspired powerboat. As if the ocean wasn’t pretty enough already.

This concept by Hungarian designer Tamas Jakus is his vision for a Pagani-built supercar of the seas, complete with red-black-and-white Cinque-inspired livery. Now, we doubt that Pagani has any plans of taking to the open ocean anytime in the near future, but a very interesting, very pretty idea nonetheless.

TVR racecars are like Indian motorcycles. Most people have never heard of them, but that’s no fault of the brand. Those that know either bow in their presence. Both were amazing machines in their time, and, like the vampires that are all the rage on TV these days, they’re pretty damn hard to kill.

TVR started in 1946, when Englishman Trever Wilkinson opened an engineering business called Trevcar Motors. A year later, Jack Pickard joined the firm, and together the pair set out to build world-class race cars. Despite being capable engineers, they were hampered by the fact that Britain was still reeling from the effects of World War 2. Still, they kept going.

They finished their first chassis in 1949, added a Ford 1172cc engine from a 1936 van, and hired a fellow named Les Dale to complete the bodywork. Unfortunately, Dale took the uncompleted car for a spin and promptly wrecked it.

Undaunted, Wilkinson and Pickard salvaged the remains of their creation and brought it back to life, adding an aluminum body that they painted British racing green. After playing with it for a while they eventually sold it to Wilkinson’s cousin for £325 (about $17,000.00 in today’s US currency). Like Dale, the cousin wrecked the car and eventually scrapped it.

Still undaunted, the duo built a second version, once again farming the bodywork out to Dale. This time they enjoyed greater success. They used the same engine type, but added a single transverse leaf spring and wishbone control arms to the suspension. An amateur racer bought the vehicle and kept it for several years, eventually converting it for street use in 1952.

Throughout the first half of the 1950s, Wilkinson and Pickard stayed busy building custom cars and car kits for eager customers. Their reputation grew, and in 1955 Bernard Williams, an auto enthusiast and keen businessman, joined TVR. He immediately found new investors and additional customers, and the company began a major expansion. By 1960, the company employed 43 full-time workers. TVR race cars were participating in major races across Europe, including the 24 hours of Le Mans, and American importers were bringing the vehicles to the states.

The good times didn’t last, however. A series of financial reversals killed the import deals and investors fled the struggling firm. In 1965 it shuttered the doors at its UK factory, supposedly for all time. But a businessman named Martin Lilley bought what was left of TVR the same year and raised it from the dead.

The company switched owners again in the 1980s, and once more in 2004, when it was bought by an expatriate Russian named Nicolay Smolensky. Smolensky did a less-than-wonderful job of managing TVR, and in June of 2013 it was sold to British entrepreneur Les Edgar, who has studied the company’s history extensively and intends to resurrect it, this time avoiding the mistakes that killed it in the past. Will he succeed? Time will tell.

Off the production line, the Koenigsegg Agera R rings in at somewhere near a cool $2.5M. But what would you pay to change that “R” into an “S”? Try $5.3M- at least that’s what one Singapore resident paid to have their custom matte blue Agera S.

Angela Tan picked up the exclusive hypercar after a launch party at the Ritz Carlton MIllenia hotel in Singapore through Koenigsegg’s new distributor in the region’s Motorway Group of Companies. This makes it the first Koenigsegg ever on the island nation.

Lest you forget, the Agera S comes with a 5.0L twin-turbo V8 and some 1,040-hp. 62 mph is managed in just under 3 seconds and top speed sits well over 250 mph.

We’ve all been there- in the back seat of a wagon or minivan on a long roadtrip. Cars did not seem very interesting back then- but as we got older and understood how impressive, powerful and reputation-enhancing a sportscar could be, our interest in the automobile grew into full-on lust. That genesis of our automotive enthusiasm is the notion being conjured by the latest SRT ad. Chrysler‘s performance wing certainly has the goods that we lust for, especially the return of the SRT Viper, which is featured in the new ad, seen below:

When will Chrysler stop making ads that give us chills? We’re not quite sure, but the automaker seems to understand what makes us tick.
