GMC Canyon vs. Chevy Colorado: Mid-Size Sibling Rivalry

Chevy Colorado GMC Canyon

If there’s one thing we are sure learn in 2014, it’s that the mid-size truck is back– thanks to a pair of pickups at GM. While Ram and Ford a mulling a return to small trucks and Toyota is debating a Tacoma replacement, Chevy and GMC have jumped the gun and unveiled two highly desirable little trucks.

But which of these two handsome mini pickups is the better looking? Take a look for yourselves:

We’ll say hands down that the Chevy Colorado is the better looking one up front. When we talked to Chief Engineer for the Colorado, Jeff Luke, back at last year’s LA Auto Show, he said designers ditched the chrome grille because buyers just didn’t want it. We couldn’t agree more — GMC is working the chrome in its own unique way. The Colorado also looks far different from its big-brother Silverado, while the GMC looks like a baby Sierra. Do you want your pals to keep calling your Canyon that?

In the back the two are relatively identical. Again though, the Canyon adds a bit more flare with the chromed out bumper, but like the Silverado, the step added into the rear fender of the Canyon and Colorado is a nice addition. The Canyon has the fake, indented fenders. We don’t like that bit of smoke-and-mirrors-machismo.

From the inside, the two don’t seem that much more different. While the Canyon may have a few more tech-heavy aspects to it, the Colorado doesn’t lack in the necessities either. Both are simple, clean, and black. The added red accents of the Canyon are a nice touch.

All in all, the two are very similar in many ways — mostly because they’re built on the same platform. Our choice for best looking would  be the Colorado by a narrow margin, just because it’s not simply a shrunken down Silverado, it has its own unique design.

Either way, we can say that these two trucks are going to change the mid-size pickup game for the better. Toyota, Ford and Ram all need to step up and throw down if they want to make an impact. Tell us which one you would prefer in the comments below.
