Finally, the big British supercar that everyone’s been waiting for is here; the production-ready McLaren P1. We’re pleasantly surprise, and not necessarily because we expected it to look any different (or yellow) from the concept. But because McLaren has ever so kindly given us official speed figures for the beast.
Boom: 0-62 mph is dealt with in less than 3 seconds, 0-124 in under 7 seconds. All this on the way to a top speed of 218 mph; slightly less than the McLaren F1′s 240-mph top speed.
The 903 ponies are derived from a mid-mounted, 3.8L, twin-turbo V8, combine with an electric motor, paired to a seven-speed dual clutch automatic gearbox and rear-wheel drive. It even allows owners to drive in a pure electric mode, for 12 miles at up to 30 mph.
Pricing is set in the UK at a thrifty £866,000 and in the US at $1,150,000 when it goes on sale this fall. Expect to see the production-ready P1 in the
flesh carbon at this years Geneva Motor Show.
