We’re less than a few days away from a brand new year, and with that, every tuning house in the world is wrapping up their latest gifts and sending them off in a blaze of glory. Shelby, Mansory, Vorsteiner, G-Power, Hamann; the list goes on. And thanks to all of our lovely fans (you) and a bit of input from the crew, we picked our top 10 tuned cars of 2012. Enjoy!
Although it was all the way back in January at the 2012 Detroit Auto Show that this special edition Super Snake was revealed, it sat atop our list of most popular rides throughout the whole year, and still does!
In honor of the 50th anniversary of Shelby American, the crew put together this stunning GT500 Super Snake, complete with up to 800-hp from a 5.4L V8. More importantly, this was one of the very last vehicles Carroll Shelby himself had a hand in designing, creating and producing all the way through until his death on May 10th.
“Few thought Shelby American would make it in the car business for 50 years,” said Carroll Shelby. “We built the first Cobra in a rented garage and than GT350′s in an old hanger. But our company is still here, manufacturing the best cars that I’ve ever made. The next 50 years will be even better for Shelby American.”
At this years Geneva Motor Show, crowd favorite tuner Mansory displayed everything and the kitchen sink. And their “adrenaline kick for the fighting bull,” came in the form of this Mansory-perfected Aventador LP700-4.
One of our most popular rides this year, the Mansory Avnetador comes with a turned-up 744-hp 6.5L V12 propelling the bull to 60 mph in only 2.8 seconds. Paired to all this power is a massively impressive body kit perfected by the German tuners. Sharp, agressive lines accent a set of custom five-spoke carbon fiber wheels.
In collaboration with Ford Racing, SPX implemented a “one-of-a-kind” look on the standard Mustang GT. Outside, the widebody Mustang was given a unique PPG red paint job, performance lowering springs, Bassani exhaust, Boss Laguna Seca pedestal spoiler and a 1969 Boss 429 hood scoop. All this Mustang and then some was sold on January 20th of 2012 for $160K, all proceeds benefitting St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.
Oh Mansory, this year was a good year for the German group. Aside from their drop-dead gorgeous Lamborghini Aventador that sits at number two on our list, this 661-hp MP4-12C is our number four most talked about tuner of the year.
With a very bold Mansory-esque styling from front to back, the McLaren boasts an orange chrome wrap, high-spoke lightweight gold wheels, a carbon-fiber racing stripe and a rear wing that goes on for days. All this paired to the aforementioned powerful 661-hp 3.8L V8.
While we wanted to include damned near every ride from the Canadian customizer SR Auto Group, we decided to go in and pick out their most stunning concept to date; Project Black Mist. A well fitting name, indeed.
The custom Ferrari 458 Italia is what SR Auto calls “dressed for the night,” in an all black everything get up. From the wheels, to the paint, to the spoiler; the custom sportscar is coated in a high-gloss black paint scheme. Boasting standard Ferrari power numbers, the 562-hp Italian-Canadian crossbreed is a gorgeous piece of machinery.
West Coast based Vorsteiner has made quite the name for themselves since the company’s introduction in 2004. Most known originally from their work with BMW, Vorsteiner worked their way up to the big leagues and boasts some of the most stunning Lamborghini, Ferrari and McLaren tunes your little heart desires.
This, then, is no exception. Vorsteiner took a standard Lamborghini Gallardo Superleggera, gave it a nip here, and a tuck there, and called it a day. Thanks to some new wheels, a few minor aesthetic adjustments and 570-hp, this Vorsteiner Lamborghini is one of the most bold and beautiful tuning jobs of the year.
With all the Lamborghini Aventador tunes to date, this was Lamborghini of Miami’s answer to all the critics. Not built to go any faster, not given any more performance enhancements, just taken into the backroom, strapped down, and coated in a gold paint job with real flakes of gold. Bad as hell.
Yet another ride from the OC tuner finds its way onto our top 10 of 2012; this Vorsteiner BMW M3 GTS5. Given a set of signature Vorsteiner wheels, the M3 also boasts a new body kit on the front and rear, a new hoodline, and boat loads of sweet sweet carbon fiber detailing.
Oh, Hennessey, your ongoing ridiculousness and use of too much power makes us cringe at times, but when you get it right, you get it oh so right indeed. Like this; the Hennessey HPE 700 Ford Mustang Boss 302, one of our favorites to come from the Texan tuner.
With a 700-hp (of course) supercharged 5.5L V8, this custom pony car is the epitome of straight-line American muscle. Also given a full carbon fiber body kit and a red and black paint scheme, this supercharged Boss is ready to hit the streets.
Rounding out our top 10 is Novitec Rosso’s banana-esque Ferrari FF. The tuned 6.3L V12 produces 702-hp at all four wheels, a new carbon-fiber front fascia gives a faster more streamlined approach, and to top it off, the banana yellow coloring makes this a one of a kind tune job from the German auto-house.
