Undoubtedly, Shelby has been the go to name when it comes to all things Mustang. From parts to racing to looks; Carroll was and will always be one of the greatest to have played the game. But lets not forget, there are many many many other tuning houses out there to become familiar with. Saleen -Shelby’s most noticeable competitor- now has put their legal troubles behind them and are ready to unleash an onslaught of new programs for the Mustang.
First and foremost, the Mustang 351. Announced at the 2012 LA Auto Show this past week, is a 700-hp gear-crunching monster of a Mustang. With a 351-cubic-inch supercharged V8 (obviously), the pony also lays down 665 pound-feet torque.
Sent to the rear wheels via a six-speed manual transmission, the power is completed by a performance clutch and a 3.73 rear axle ration, the 351 makes the 662-hp Shelby GT500 look like a house cat.
In the style department, Saleen gave the car a set of 20-inch staggered wheels, carbon fiber front and rear splitters, a butterfly hood-scoop and an “F1-stlye tail lamp.” As far as price, Saleen isn’t all to vocal about the details, but expect a number well over the GT500′s $55K price tag.
