Like pulling the pin on a grenade and rolling it down a hallway, we asked Bold Ride readers what they thought the two candidates should drive to the presidential debate tonight. You guys did not disappoint in your responses.
What we noticed was, as much as equal support for both parties through comments, just as many people just plain don’t like either candidate. There were some responses that we certainly do not condone, but, hey, its America– free speech and so forth. There were several other suggestions that came in that were geared towards both candidates. We’ll start off with one and sprinkle the rest in along the way.
(It should be noted that the suggestion of the vehicle was that of the commenters, and our commentary attached to each selection is merely an unbiased interpretation of the answer)
On with the list:
Smart Car (Both):
(Suggested by AC, PWM) This one seems to be an apparent allusion to the supposed intelligence (or suggested lack thereof of both candidates). These cars ARE fuel efficient and safe, though are PR nightmares, and who hasn’t run into a couple of those in a presidential race.
SRT Viper (Romney):
(Suggested by DM) Actually a wise maneuver. Though he may not be an strong advocate of the Government’s continued involvement in General Motors, the Chrysler-built SRT Viper allows Romney to show his support for the American auto industry while simultaneously driving a car that the wealthy can afford. He’s covering both ends of the spectrum.
Share a Car(Both):
Bold Ride fan RW writes, “Actually it would be funny to see a scene from Days of Thunder where the opponents had to share a car!!” We think he means when they raced against each other in rental cars to the restaurant, but still DAYS OF THUNDER! (We couldn’t find a clip, so just enjoy the trailer, Source: Paramount, via YouTube)
Fisker/Volt/Prius (Obama):
(Suggested by DM) Romney had harsh words for the Government’s continued support for particular green automakers. The Governor went so far as to say that Fisker and Tesla failed. What a better way to counter than to pull a ‘Tucker’ and show up with one of the fruits of the government loans. Though word that battery supplier A123 Systems just filed bankruptcy will NOT help the incumbent’s argument.
Ford Super Duty F-250 (Romney):
(Suggested by SS) Lets just say this is Romney reaching out to his base. To those undecided, it may help him be viewed as the “people’s choice” driving a regular ole’ pickup.
Classic Cadillac Sedan (Obama):
(Suggested by SS, MP) This could be a solid play in establishing one’s self as the classic president. The Cadillac Limousine and the Lincoln before it have been synonymous with the presidency. Besides, the President rides in a GMT800 truck made to look like a Cadillac Limousine- can’t they change it up for once!
Maybach Laundaulet (Romney):
(Suggested by MS) This would be the one-uppper’s move. Romney will see your Caddy and raise you a $1million convertible limousine. It’s the baller move to end baller moves.
Chyrsler 300 SRT8 (Obama):
(Suggested by ROCM) Backs Detroit. Backs the bailouts. Backs American industry. Fronts swagger for days. How can you go wrong?
