Press day number one is over at the Paris Motor Show, and there has been a whole host of vehicular madness to digest. While the other automotive sites will take you through the denziens of worthless econo-boxes and neutered compacts, we’re-a-fixin to drop several galleries of high-output hottness on you baguette-loving bastards. USA! USA! USA!
At the the Detroit Auto Show, Mercedes-Benz though it would be cute to scorch out eyeballs with the loud (visually speaking, it probably runs silent!) SLS AMG E-Cell. The all-electric supercar was merely a prototype, which foreshadowed the car that bowed today at the show- the SLS AMG Electric Drive. As the name suggest, the zero-emissions gullwing is powered by a quartet of electric motors- one at each wheel. Power is derived from a lithium-ion battery back, and also generates juice from a KERS system developed with help from the Mercedes-AMG F1 racing team.
Combined output is 552kW and 1,000Nm, or roughly 738 pound feet of torque. Mercedes says its their most powerful AMG car ever. It does 0-60 in just 3.9 seconds, which is not as fast as the 3.6 from the conventionally powered SLS AMG GT. But hey, the GT doesn’t have to lug around that massive battery pack.
The car is slated for limited production, costs over $500K…oh and that color is stupefying. Even if you don’t think so, at least you don’t need sunglasses to look at it like its neon predecessor.
There really isn’t much that Rolls-Royce can do to tarnish its brand equity. Luckily, it does not have to worry about that with a trio of special Art Deco edition Phantoms, the most stunnning, of course, being the Drophead Coupe. These limited versions of the Phantom line are said to be inspired Exposition Internationale des Arts Décoratifs et Industriels Modernes which took place in Paris in 1925. Apparently, that exhibition’s name was the origin for the term “Art Deco.”
This proves the transitive property of the Drophead Coupe: Make the same change to every single model in the Rolls-Royce lineup, and no matter the alteration, the Drophead will always be the best. It’s science.
Holy shit! It’s another Lexus with a ‘pinched’ grille! Which is just like the entire Infiniti lineup and its ‘pinched’ grille! Back when the Japanese automakers started getting into the luxury game, they were essentially aping German luxury car designs every which way, and continued to do that until Chris Bangle got to BMW, started something called “flame surfacing” and effed it up for everyone. At that point the likes of Lexus, Infiniti, and Acura were forced to do their own thing, and great designs came forth.
Now that the brands have their own style identity, they follow that identity to he point where you cannot tell one model from the next. They all look the same! Put a GS350 next to an ES350, and you would have to look around back at the badging before you could tell which was with. Sheesh…oh yeah, this concept likely foreshadows the next IS entry-level Lexus. It will look like every other Lexus, just smaller.
