The Cadillac CTS-V Wagon and the Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 are two of our favorite American cars here at BR. We’ve made no secret of the fact that we’d happily do terrible things to perfectly nice people just to own one. So, we were more than happy to find out that our favorite Texan since Carrol Shelby, John Hennessey, had worked some of his magic on both. Hennessy labeled them the Camaro ZL1 HPE 700 and the Cadillac CTS-V V650. Matt Farah heads to the land of big ribs and big horsepower for the scoop.
Without a doubt, the star of the show is really the ZL1. Farah spends plenty of time scaring the crap out of the local livestock, and even arousing the attention of the local Smokeys. But the best thing about the ZL1, and this video, is it shows how much potential GM’s new breed of performance cars have. Sure, we still have our bones to pick with the Camaro, but there’s no knocking the competency of the new Magnetic Ride Suspenion and the natural talent of the LSA small block. A lot of time went into making these cars handle like no other cars in their respective classes, and it shows. Hennessey prefers to leave the suspension stock despite giving the motor some serious muscle car massaging .
Given that the two share so much in common and are two incredibly different takes on the high-horsepower, high-technology formula, it seems only natural to race the two. And Farah does. The video isn’t short, but stick around for the end when Matt pitts the monster ZL1 against Jim Hennessey and his daily driven, tuned CTS-V Wagon. Will the Yankee take the Texan on home soil?
If your Thursday is missing a little raucousness, here’s more than enough V8 noise with a dash of supercharger whine to breakup your daily beige. We suggest you grab a pair of headphones, or turn your speakers up to LOUD and enjoy:
