Diesel hatchbacks are all too common with our friends across the pond, and although good on mpg and good for penguins, they lack the “oomph” that you get from a naturally-aspirated hot hatch. Vauxhall is looking to change that with their new Astra GTC turbodiesel.
Slotted just below the performance range VXR, the GTC turbodiesel comes packing 195 hp and an impressive 295 lb-ft of torque under the hood from the 2.0-L twin-turbo diesel. This engine pushes the little Astra to 139 mph and a 0-60mph time of 7.8 seconds, all the more returning an impressive 53.3 mpg (EU scale).
Currently sitting as one of the best looking hatchbacks on the market, Vauxhall has given the Astra only minor upgrades to key points like the front and rear bumpers and the grille. It has also been given the optional front camera to let the driver steer clear of low curbs and massive speed bumps.
