Maybe. These renderings have been floating around the web as a possible look for the 2015 Ford Mustang which has a release date scheduled on it’s 50th anniversary. At first glance, the look is a departure from the current model and feels more modern and a bit less “muscle retro.” Depending on who you ask that may or may not be a good thing. But what’s undeniable, is that you can feel a little bit of Aston Martin here and that’s never a bad thing.
What might have inspired these images?
At the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show, Ford introduced the Evos Concept which was futuristic look into how Ford might start designing cars in the future. Some of the design cues and lines from that concept are prevalent here. So whether or not this could be the real thing, there’s enough good reason to suggest that it might not be entirely off. As for the good ‘ole American Pony look, Ford will likely intend for the new Mustang to be more “worldly” to broaden the appeal to a variety of tastes and personalities in an effort to increase sales.
When we posted these pictures on our Facebook wall, there were mixed feelings. Some of our friends thought it would be a shame to lose the old Mustang look while others were on board saying stuff like “That is an awesome looking car, I hope they make the production car look like that” and “Beautiful car…Definitely doesn’t scream American muscle though” and of course they were others who flat out didn’t like it saying simply “Not a Fan” and some others that we’ll just leave out.
For us, we appreciate both points of view and just hope that whatever Ford does, they keep it respectful of the heritage which means it’ll always be a Bold Ride. You can likely expect to see the next generation Ford Mustang officially revealed at the 2014 New York International Auto Show.
